Darren Tate is a multi-talented singer, dancer, songwriter, model and actor. Often described as the “clean-cut boy next door”, his style is both fresh and captivating. Tate’s music is arm waving, finger-snapping, futuristic “pump-up” pop and R&B and his unique and catchy hooks are quickly locking in fans all over the globe. Before his big break, Tate attended Akron, Ohio’s St. Vincent St. Mary High School (LeBron James’ Alma Mater) where he was an athlete on the football, track, and wrestling teams. Concurrently, at every opportunity, he attempted to show off his talents at dances, sporting events, recitals choirs and by modeling for Abercrombie and Fitch. After high school, he attended The University of Toledo – where he was magically paired with roommate Javier (Javi D) Dang, a music major and local producer. Within weeks, they were gelling creatively and had turned their 12 x 12 dorm room into a makeshift recording studio. “My closet was the vocal booth”, says Tate. “I lived out of a bag so my clothes wouldn’t get in the way sonically.” Soon after, the two were on their way to making demos in their dorm room, distributing music to their friends and selling out performances on campus.
But it wasn’t until an introduction to music manager Howard Perl that Darren Tate’s career was propelled to the professional level. Perl, an unconventional music industry veteran, immediately saw potential in Tate and began an aggressive artist development campaign. “In this business, you either have it or you don’t. Obviously, Darren has it,” claims Perl.
Tate now has a strong team of producers and music business professionals standing behind him. Along with Manager Howard Perl, Tate’s team also consists of award winning engineer Jon Guggenheim (Babyface, New Edition, Bobby Brown, The Boys), videographer Christopher Broughton (Jamie Foxx, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, Gladys Knight) and promoter Bruce Reiner (Run DMC, Jodeci, Shaggy). But, to Darren, one of the most important parts of this structure is the ability to write his own songs. He says, “I’ve been blessed with the talent to tell stories through music. Writing my own material is crucial to me and my success because it shows who I am.”
Tate is currently working on the completion of his first full-length album, the conception of an international concert tour and an endorsement deal with the new jeans line called Do Denim.
